After School Art Club
Thursdays from 11 September
Rural Arts will be running another series of the popular After School Art Club starting on Thursday 11 September 2008. This is an opportunity for young people to work with different artists and experience different techniques using a variety of media.
Autumn dates:

13 November
11 December
It is preferable for young people to attend all sessions but they can come to one or more sessions if it is not possible for them to attend all four.
Light refreshments (toast, fruit juice, etc) will be available free of charge at both sessions. Please let us know if you child has any food allergies.
We recommend that young people wear old clothes / protective clothing, as Rural Arts cannot accept responsibility for any damage.
Ages 8-11: 4.00pm – 5.30pm
Ages 12-18: 5.45pm – 7.15pm
Cost: £12 per session, or £42 for 4 weeks if booked in advance

Exciting Digital Media Installation Project
Half-term Thursday 30th October & Friday 31st October
10.00am – 4.00pm
An opportunity for young people aged 14 and over to get involved in creating a series of installations using graphics, animations, music and film to be featured in a digital exhibition at venues around the town including the Old Courthouse.
Cost: FREE
Open to young people aged 14 and over
Funded by Young People’s Lottery Project

Felt making: Explore and Embellish
A three - part course designed to explore the potential of needle punch embellisher machines with tutor Sheila Smith
Basics and Beyond
Saturday 6 September
Get to grips with the embellisher. Learn how it works and explore exciting techniques with wool fibres
Fabulous Fabrics
Saturday 11 October
Construct your own individual fabric from scraps of fabric and fibres. Design a small bag or book cover using the fabric created
Embellishing in Three Dimensions
Saturday 8 November
Design a three dimensional bowl or vessel and construct it with the embellisher.

Touch Typing and Keyboard Skills
Eight week course on Wednesdays from 10 September
6.30 - 8.30pm
Do you use a computer? Would you like to be able to type quickly and easily using more than 2 or 3 fingers? This is your chance to learn to touch type to speed up all areas of your keyboard skills; once learnt it is a skill you never forget and can be useful in school, university and all areas of work.

Yoga
Five week course
Course 1: Mondays from 15 September, excluding 13 October

Suitable for all abilities. A mixture of yoga, aerobic exercise and relaxation to ensure total body fitness. Please wear comfortable clothing.

Quilting Workshops

Reverse Applique: a hand-sewn technique based on a design featuring the Kilburn Horse, our local hill figure.
Saturday 25 October
Foundation Piecing: a technique for producing very accurate patchwork blocks by piecing the whole design through a sheet of paper.
Saturday 15 November
Christmas Baskets: a seasonal traditional design to create something special for Christmas.
Fabrics and notions are available for sale at the workshops

French Class

Drawing and Painting Class

Develop your confidence in drawing and painting in a relaxed and informal atmosphere. We shall work from observation and imagination, using a variety of different materials. All levels of experience welcome.

Script Writing & Film Making Course
Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 October
10.00am – 4.00pm
No high definition camera? No boom mike? No lighting rig? No steadicam? No problem!
No previous experience is needed. Training will be given using video cameras anyone can operate and afford and cover planning and scripting, filming and editing. We can’t promise to turn you into Martin Scorsese but will give you the confidence to plan and make your own movies.
The tutors will be James Richards and Alasdair Beckett-King, both of whom have won awards for their films. James was co-writer of BBC1’s BAFTA winning “Truth or Dare" starring John Hannah.

Big Draw Workshop
Saturday 25 October
10.00am – 3.00pm
The theme is Dig for Victory!
Start at the World of James Herriot museum where, with displays of authentic seed varieties, traditional growing methods and ways of preserving produce, you can look back to a time when growing your own food was essential to supplement meagre war time rations.
Take part in an hour-long workshop, sketching the museum exhibits, with an artist on hand to encourage and support you.
Then move on to the Old Courthouse, where a second artist will help you to transfer your sketches to a large scale collaborative drawing
A family event for adults and children over 5 years. All children must be accompanied by an adult.
Workshops begin at the World of James Herriot museum at the following times: 10am, 11am, 1pm, 2pm.
Each workshop has a maximum of 15 places available, so booking in advance is essential.

Life Drawing
Four week course: 15, 22, 29 November and 6 December

This 4-week course is open to adults of all abilities. Learners will gain confidence in drawing through working from the model, as well as being encouraged to make lively and individual drawings. The course will cover structure and form using a variety of different materials.
